The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA) pays compensation to those who have suffered either physical or mental injury as a result of a criminal act in England, Wales and Scotland. An application has to be made within 2 years of the date of the injury. Whilst you may apply direct to the CICA, there are many advantages in having professional assistance with your application, for instance, advice on the award made and whether or not to apply for a review of the decision. The award is made in accordance with the published tariff and covers your injuries but can cover other losses as well. In certain cases independent medical evidence can be beneficial in establishing the full extent of the injuries and obtaining the maximum award.
Legal costs are not recoverable from the CICA and therefore we are able to act on your behalf either on a private basis or under a contingency fee basis whereby if you are successful an agreed percentage of your damages is paid in respect of our costs, with no costs to pay if you do not succeed.
